The Most Powerful Time to Practice: Sunrise

Summer and autumn mornings bring something magical – sunrises that make you pause and breathe.

This is when Yang awakens to its full radiant power.

What a perfect moment to harmonize your practice with nature’s rhythm.

Before the first light

To connect with this special energy, you’ll want to prepare properly.

Let the sunrise guide your timing – you’ll begin your practice well before the first light touches the horizon.

Move through your warm-up exercises with gentle awareness.

Then settle into Standing Like a Tree, into the Wu Chi position, feeling your roots deepen into the earth.

If you have time, the Five Energy exercises prepare you beautifully for what’s to come. The Metal element, especially, creates an ideal foundation for morning practice.

There’s something profound about standing still between earth and sky, waiting for the world to awaken.

Meeting the Sun

About five minutes before sunrise, gently transition into the Fire position of Standing Like a Tree.

Now comes the magic.

Watch as the sun slowly rises, painting the world with golden light.

Feel that warm energy washing over you.

You’re aligning with nature’s shift from Yin to Yang – the most potent energy transition of the day.

When the sun’s disk moves complete above the horizon, it’s time to complete your practice.

Sealing the Energy

Finish with your cool-down exercises, sealing the precious energy you’ve gathered deep in your lower energy centers, in your Tan Tien and Ming Men.

This simple practice goes back generations – greeting the sun with awareness and presence. Just you, the sunrise, and the flow of energy between earth and sky.
