Recommended Experience

The weekly classes of the Academy include advanced, sometimes rarely taught Chi Kung practices from the Tradition of the Masters.

Therefore, new members should already know the basics of Chi Kung, especially its foundation, Zhan Zhuang, Standing Like a Tree.

You may wish to gain some practical Chi Kung experience before joining the Academy.

This can be accomplished in a number of ways, including self-study of Master Lam’s book The Way of Energy, attending the annual Foundation Course taught by Sifu Thomas, or being introduced to Zhan Zhuang as part of another Chi Kung or Tai Chi system.

Classes take place as usual on public holidays.

The Academy closes for two weeks at the end of the year and during the summer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my membership plan once I’ve signed up?

Sure, you can upgrade or downgrade your membership level at any time.

On ThriveCart, the platform used to manage your membership, you can do this yourself – or you can ask Sifu Thomas to do it for you.

Is there a syllabus or agenda for the weekly classes?

Unlike the Academy courses, which have clearly defined topics, the weekly classes follow the flow and inspiration of the teacher and the interests and abilities of the students.

Here are some recent example:

At the end of 2022, we explored the very profound concept of Hun Yuan and its application in Zhan Zhuang.

During the summer of 2022, the Academy training focused on breathing, especially the Chi Kung exercises for regular and reverse breathing, and their relationship with Shi Li, Power Testing.

In the beginning of 2023, a series of classes covered healing with advanced Chi Kung practices.

In autumn, the focus was on using Golden Ball training to strengthen the spine, preventing and curing back issues.

I‘m a complete beginner and want to learn Chi Kung. How do I start?

The best way to begin your Chi Kung journey is to read Master Lam’s classic The Way of Energy – Mastering the Chinese Art of Internal Strength with Chi Kung Exercise.

This is the very first book on Chi Kung published in the West, and the definitive book on the art. It is beautifully illustrated and provides excellent and comprehensive instructions for self-study of Chi Kung in the Tradition of the Masters.

A great additional resource for self-study is Master Lam’s Stand Still be Fit video series. You can access the videos by clicking the Link below.

You may also want to attend the annual Foundation Course taught by Sifu Thomas. The 9 classes of this course will give you a great foundation on which to build your practice.

After completing this course, you’ll definitely be ready for advanced training at the Academy.

How do online courses fit into the weekly class schedule?

Online classes are included with Standard and Premium memberships at no additional cost.

They replace weekly classes on Thursdays for the duration of the course.

Can I join the Academy after reading the Way of Energy?

Many students like you began their Chi Kung journey by studying Master Lam’s The Way of Energy on their own. It’s a very popular way to start.

The classic Chi Kung Foundation Course, which has been taught and refined by Sifu Thomas continuously since 1997, would be the perfect next step for you.

However, if you don’t want to wait for the next class in October, you can sign up now and take advantage of the 7-day trial to see if you’re ready for the advanced weekly training.

If you find that you enjoy the weekly Academy classes and have chosen the Standard or Premium plan, you will eventually take the Chi Kung Foundations course – it is included in your membership, as well as all other online courses.

What kind of training can I expect as a member of the Academy?

There is a wide range of Chi Kung exercises that you will learn as a member of the Academy.

Here are some examples:

Six Zhan Zhuang, Standing Like a Tree, Yin postures: 5 Elements + Wu Chi

10 Precious Warm-Up exercises as taught by Master Lam
